Living healthy should feel fun and inspiring, not overwhelming and unattainable. If you suspect that your health could benefit from a few lifestyle tweaks (or a complete overhaul), stress no more! Getting healthier is easier than you think!
In honor of World Health Day this Sunday, April 7th, here are some of our favorite—and super-easy—“healthy” tips:
Eat more plants!
Eating a plant-based diet may reduce your risk of cancer, according to reports on global research from the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR). AICR developed the New American Plate, which is a healthier way of eating than the traditional 4 squares we grew up with. The new plate is ⅓ protein and ⅔ plant-based (which includes fruits, veggies, beans, and whole grains).
Avoid sugary drinks
While this is not news, sometimes we all need a reminder. Soda and juices are bad news for your health because they are strongly associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and other health issues. In general, lowering your consumption of sugar is beneficial to your health. If you’re not ready to give up sweets, however, simply avoiding sugary drinks is a great place to start. Liquid sugar calories offer no nutritional value, they’re just extra calories, which can lead to weight gain, high blood sugar, or simply cause you to eat less of the healthier foods.
Drink green tea!
Green tea is one of the healthiest beverages on the planet. It’s low in calories and packed with nutrients and antioxidants, which help fight age-inducing free radicals! Studies show that people who drink lots of green tea tend to live longer. Green tea may also help you burn fat by boosting your metabolism, a benefit that is attributed to compounds in green tea called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and caffeine.
Get your beauty sleep.
Your mom said it, her mom said it, and now we’re saying it—sleep is the world’s most underrated beauty and health secret. Did you know that sleeping 7 to 9 hours every night may reduce your risk for cancer, decrease stress, reduce inflammation, improve your memory, reduce your risk for depression, help you lose weight, improve your memory and boost your complexion?
