About Other Breast Procedures at CNY Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery
CNY Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery offers additional cosmetic breast procedures that can help patients restore self-confidence. These procedures include:
- Correcting nipple inversion
- Areola reduction
- Removal of excess breast tissue
Correcting Nipple Inversion
There are two types of procedures to correct nipple inversion. The distinction between the two is whether or not the milk ducts remain intact. For women planning to breastfeed, this may be an important consideration to discuss with Dr. Anthony Deboni or Dr. Gregory Baum during the consultation appointment. Both procedural methods enhance the appearance of the nipple and can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.
Areola Reduction
Areola reduction is for patients who feel that their areolas, the pigmented regions surrounding the nipples, are too large. This procedure is appropriate for men or women who seek to improve their self-confidence by obtaining smaller areolas. This procedure can be combined with other breast procedures, including lifts, augmentations, or reductions. For women planning to breastfeed, this procedure does not typically impact their ability to do so.
Removal of Excess Breast Tissue
Some men or women have extra nipples/areolae or excess breast tissue. This may not cause any symptoms at all, or the breast tissue could be tender at the time of a woman’s period. We can help to restore your comfort and confidence by removing excess breast tissue.
Frequently Asked Questions about Other Breast Procedures in Central New York at CNY Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery
What type(s) of anesthetic will I need to use for nipple inversion, areola reduction, or removal of excess breast tissue?
For nipple inversion procedures, local anesthetic with a sedative is typically administered, regardless of which of the two methods are used.
Patients who elect to undergo areola reduction or removal of excess breast tissue usually require general anesthesia. Depending on the patient’s situation, local anesthetic with sedation may also be an option.
How does areola reduction in Syracuse, NY work?
One of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Baum or Dr. Deboni, will remove excess areola area and then use dissolvable sutures to create a smaller circumference of the areola(s).
Will I need to stay overnight in the hospital following my procedure?
Correcting nipple inversion is an outpatient procedure.
Areola reduction and removal of excess breast tissue may be either outpatient or inpatient procedures. This depends largely on the type of anesthetic used. Patients who use general anesthesia may need to spend one night in the hospital, whereas patients who use local anesthetic with a sedative may be able to return home the same day as their procedure.
Are the results of nipple inversion in Syracuse, NY permanent?
In most cases, patients can enjoy long-lasting results from their nipple inversion procedure.
