Are you feeling more attitude than gratitude these days?
Let’s face it, 2020 has been a particularly challenging year, so no one should be faulted for feeling a little glum now and then. Besides, your attitude is not your fault. Research on gratitude indicates that your ability or aptitude for feeling grateful may be innate, something you’re born with. So that should take off a little pressure.
The thing about gratitude is that it’s really good for you! Mind-body research suggests that people who feel gratitude are more likely to be happier and live longer. Since our job here at CNY Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery is to make you look and feel your amazing best, we want you to feel as much gratitude as you possibly can, for your own benefit!
The good news is that you can build up your gratitude just like a muscle. Here are a few gratitude-building exercises to try:
Start a list.
If writing in a gratitude journal seems overwhelming or you don’t like to write, we suggest writing your gratitude list on post-it notes throughout your day. Any time gratitude pops into your head, jot it down somewhere. The whole point to writing down your thoughts is that it’s helping you be mindful and training your brain to think about gratitude more frequently. Isn’t that neat, the idea that just thinking about gratitude is strengthening your gratitude muscle? We think so, too!
Just do it.
Don’t wait for gratitude to hit you. If you don’t feel gratitude, you can still act with gratitude. Think of all the things that grateful people do throughout their day and do them. Open doors for others, give up your seat on the subway, pay someone a compliment, be extra patient for family members or your pets. Research shows that acting the part can help you feel the part. As they say, “fake it till you make it!”
Treat yourself!
It’s hard to be filled with gratitude when you feel depleted and completely spent. Are you taking care of yourself? Sleeping and eating right? Have you scheduled down time or made that appointment for your next HydraFacial®? Don’t put your needs last! Especially during the busy holiday season, self-care is more vital than ever. We can help you hit the reset button. To learn about our treatments and services, please call (315) 663-0112 or complete our online consultation request form today.
From everyone here at CNY Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery, we wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving!
